John Kampfner’s book paints a vivid multi-dimensional picture of Berlin, a turbulent and beguiling city that has been a military barracks, industrial powerhouse, centre of learning and hotbed of espionage.

The author will discuss how Berlin was once the fulcrum of the Cold War. Drawing on interviews with writers and historians, he will focus on the behaviour of the Soviets in the eastern part of the city.

The conversation will be moderated by Gill Bennett, RUSI Senior Associate Fellow and former Chief Historian, Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
