The RUSI Europe office in Brussels was established in 2015 and acts as a hub for all of RUSI’s innovative research. This deep and broad defence and security expertise is built around seven research groups covering everything from cyber and tech and defence industries to finance and security.
Uniquely positioned to share insights on UK thinking on security and defence issues, we help Brussels-based officials and businesses to access and engage with UK decision-makers.
Convening power
RUSI Europe is a trusted convener, bringing together senior decision-makers, policymakers, industry leaders and subject-matter experts to address Europe's most pressing security challenges. By creating neutral, trusted forums for dialogue, RUSI Europe enables frank discussion, strengthens cross-sector relationships and helps shape policy across the UK, EU and NATO communities.
High-level roundtables: RUSI Europe convenes senior government officials, military leaders and private sector representatives for closed-door discussions on strategic priorities. For example, in partnership with the UK Joint Delegation to NATO, RUSI Europe hosted Translating 3.5% into Capabilities at the UK Ambassador's Residence in Brussels, bringing together high-level UK, EU and NATO officials alongside industry leaders to discuss defence investment and capability development.
Policy roundtables: RUSI Europe regularly brings together policymakers, technical experts, academics and industry to examine emerging policy challenges and develop practical solutions. A Cyber and Tech roundtable on frontier AI governance and secure third-party access convened leading cybersecurity experts and policymakers to inform debate on the governance of critical technologies.
Thematic summits: Through issue-focused summits, RUSI Europe connects government, industry and research communities to tackle complex cross-cutting security issues. The summit on Powering Deterrence: Energy Security Ahead of the NATO Summit 2026 brought together policymakers, business leaders and researchers to explore how energy security underpins resilience and collective defence.
High-level conferences: RUSI Europe hosts major international conferences that convene influential voices from across government, finance, industry and academia. The SIFMANet Summit 2025, delivered with the Centre for Finance and Security, brought together senior sanctions experts, policymakers and business leaders from across the UK and Europe to strengthen cooperation on sanctions implementation and enforcement.
