Closing the Crypto Recovery Gap: Building a Global Response to Illicit Finance in the Digital Asset Ecosystem

Overview

The Centre for Finance and Security at RUSI invites you to a panel discussion on the practical steps needed to close the global crypto enforcement gap.

Crypto assets and other virtual assets are now embedded in the global illicit finance landscape. While the technology is global, enforcement and asset recovery remain highly uneven.  This enforcement and recovery gap matters. Criminals and malign actors exploit weaker jurisdictions, jurisdictional friction and slow information sharing to move, conceal and off-ramp digital assets. Victims of fraud and scams face limited prospects of recovery. Law enforcement agencies often struggle to match the speed and technical sophistication of criminal use of crypto-assets. The result is a fragmented global response to a fast-moving and adaptive threat.

Our event will explore what a more effective international response should look like. It will focus on the practical enforcement chain: how illicit crypto activity is investigated, traced, frozen, seized, managed and recovered – and how governments, law enforcement, prosecutors, regulators, private sector actors and international partners can work together more effectively.
