Overview
In February 2024, two years after Russia’s illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, the House of Lords’ International Relations and Defence Committee launched an inquiry to assess interim lessons from the conflict and implications for UK defence. This inquiry led to a report entitled ‘Ukraine: A Wake-Up Call’, published on 26 September 2024.
In this discussion, members of the committee will present and discuss the findings of their report and its recommendations for the UK government ahead of the Strategic Defence Review.
Panellists:
- Lord de Mauley KCVO TD, Chair of the House of Lords’ International Relations and Defence Committee and Chair of the Council of the Reserve Forces and Cadets Associations.
- General the Lord Houghton of Richmond GCB CBE DL, Member of the House of Lords’ International Relations and Defence Committee and former UK Chief of the Defence Staff.
- Baroness Fraser of Craigmaddie, Member of the House of Lords’ International Relations and Defence Committee and graduate of the UK Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme.
