Overview

The extensive integration of AI in the defence and security industry is leading to operational and conceptual shifts, often accompanied by significant ethical concerns. These include problems such as the accountability gap for AI systems' actions, their unpredictable nature, a lack of transparency, and the impact these factors have for human control.

Mivy James will discuss the importance of building a better understanding of the different applications and types of AI, and the considerations needed to harness their potential. She will explore the benefits and potential pitfalls of AI applications, and the need to construct and apply an ethical and legal framework if the knowledge provided is to be harnessed to our advantage.
