Overview

Poland and the UK signed a landmark Security and Defence Partnership Treaty on 27 May, cementing their strategic partnership. The Northolt Treaty and accompanying landmark agreements  focus on strengthening European security, establishing joint measures to deter Russian aggression, and accelerating industrial defence partnerships.

The Northolt Treaty represents a vital component of Poland’s efforts to strengthen its ties with like-minded partners with whom it shares a common understanding of the threats to the European security architecture, highlighting the necessity for European powers to step up their own defence commitments amid the ongoing war in Eastern Europe.

Minister Sikorski will discuss his strategic vision for this treaty, which rests on the following core pillars:

  • Fortifying NATO's eastern flank.
  • Industrial and defence integration.
  • Navigating shifting alliances.
  • Deterring hybrid threats.
