Overview

The 9/11 attacks, which struck at the very heart of the US mainland, had catastrophic long-term consequences across the globe, leading directly to war in Afghanistan, the broader US ‘War on Terror’ and the invasion of Iraq. The effects of 9/11 were also felt closer to home as many governments, including in the UK, began to introduce new anti-terror legislation to combat the perceived threat from international terrorism.

In this wide-ranging discussion, the panellists will examine the lasting implications of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and how they continue to shape perceptions and policies on both sides of the Atlantic.

The webinar will be hosted by Gill Bennett, RUSI Senior Associate Fellow and former Chief Historian, Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
