Overview

The RUSI library invites you to an evening with photojournalist Susan Schulman, as she discusses her recent visit to Taiwan. This will be held on Monday 27 July 2026 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm in the RUSI Library.

'It is only a matter of time before China decides to attack Taiwan.' Susan Schulman writes in her opening sentences of the RUSI Journal article, echoing sentiments shared by many Taiwanese. The long-standing and often-stated ambition of Taiwan’s giant neighbour looms large, even if military activity and coercive behaviour wax and wane according to the mood in Beijing.

We are excited to have Susan join us to talk through her experiences in Taiwan and, through her photography, to shine a light on the everyday existence of people ‘living with the threat’. We are also delighted to be joined by members of the Taipei Representative Office in London, and we thank them for their generosity in facilitating the event.

Refreshments will be provided.
