Overview
In an era of geopolitical tensions and economic shifts, this session will explore the critical role of international partnerships for European sanctions to effectively address global security threats. Speakers from DG FISMA and the UK’s FCDO will discuss how the EU and UK can strengthen their sanctions alliance through enhanced cooperation, while addressing key challenges such as implementation, enforcement, and engagement with third countries.
The public panel session of the Sanctions and Illicit Finance Monitoring and Analysis Network (SIFMANet) Brussels Summit will explore strategies to ensure sanctions remain an effective tool, including through outreach to Global South countries using compelling narratives and effective incentives for cooperation. Moderated by Tom Keatinge, the discussion will also provide recommendations for future policy development, reinforcing sanctions as a critical instrument in safeguarding democracy.
The panel discussion will be followed by a light networking reception from 18:30-20:00.
