This two-day introductory training course consists of a series of seminars delivered by RUSI fellows and external experts from the UK Ministry of Defence and the British Red Cross, as well as other think tanks and academic organisations working on nuclear policy matters.
Part One of the course will introduce nuclear deterrence and arms control, as well as UK’s nuclear policy and the connection between nuclear weapons and international law.
Part Two will look at nuclear disarmament, as well as delve into the specific cases of the Iran nuclear deal and China’s nuclear thinking.
Lukasz Kulesa, Director of RUSI’s Proliferation and Nuclear Policy, and Dr Ana Alecsandru, Research Fellow and UK PONI Programme Manager, will moderate the sessions.
Who should attend
This course is aimed at early career professionals working in the nuclear field – whether in academia, government or industry – who have not yet had significant exposure to nuclear policy debates. We would like to encourage those working in scientific, engineering and technical roles to attend, and there will be plenty of time in each session for questions to the expert speakers.
