Overview

In an era in which democratic values are under threat from a range of adversaries, the UK government aims to defend society against those who would do us harm.

This lecture will explore how science contributes not only to this specific endeavour but also as part of a collective voice providing advice to the government on matters of critical national importance.

The speaker will focus on the significance of national security and defence skills, and the role of universities in educating the next generation of engineers and scientists.

The lecture will be hosted by Lord Evans of Weardale KCB DL, RUSI Distinguished Fellow and former Director General of the British Security Service (MI5).

About The Prince Philip Lecture on Military Education

Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Patron of RUSI, graciously approved the establishment of a yearly Prince Philip Lecture on Military Education in 2021 to honour the late Prince’s legacy, who launched a debate about the importance of military education in a speech delivered to RUSI in 1983.
