Overview
Russia is intensifying its subversion campaign in Europe. On 29 December, a cyber attack compromised 30 energy facilities in Poland, damaging operational technology systems responsible for managing the distribution of energy. Although the attack was halted before it could cause a power outage, it still marked an escalation of Russia’s cyber campaign in Europe.
The attack raises questions about the extent of Russia’s access to European critical national infrastructure, as well as guesswork on where its sabotage campaign might strike next.

To answer some of these questions, RUSI is hosting John Hultquist, the Chief Analyst of Google Threat Intelligence Group. John has over 25 years of experience in intelligence and special operations, principally covering emerging threats in cyber espionage. His team found and first publicly exposed the Russian threat actor best known as Sandworm. John is the founder of CYBERWARCON and SLEUTHCON, and he teaches at Johns Hopkins University.
John will be in conversation with Shashank Joshi, Defence Editor of The Economist and RUSI Advisory Board Member.
