Overview

As China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy evolves from a ‘green-water’ navy into a force capable of power projection, the question of how it will support Chinese leaders’ ambitions in regions beyond the Indo-Pacific is becoming increasingly important. A greater understanding of China’s future behaviour will need to inform the decisions made by both policymakers and military planners in several regions in which Beijing has not previously had a large strategic footprint, including the Euro-Atlantic.

This panel discussion will examine the findings of a recent report supported by the Royal Navy and France’s Centre d'études stratégiques de la Marine (CESM), which examines the likely trajectory of China as a maritime power in the Euro-Atlantic region.
