Overview

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has reverberated throughout the global energy landscape, significantly impacting energy security and focusing attention on the vulnerability of other supply chains which are critical for the transition to net zero emissions.

With Europe facing another winter of war in Ukraine and the broader stand-off with Russia showing no signs of easing, the continent’s gas supply remains precarious and reliant on offshore infrastructure. It is therefore essential that the financial and security costs associated with importing gas, and the security value of clean heating and energy efficiency, are reflected in energy policy decisions.

In this briefing, Charles Hendry will offer insights on the swift action needed to mitigate risks, strengthen resilience and ensure that energy remains a driver of stability and prosperity in the face of geopolitical uncertainty.

The briefing will be chaired by Dan Marks, Research Fellow for Energy Security, RUSI.
