Overview
LGBTIQ+ communities are facing unprecedented threats to their security, while there are concerning global trends eroding rights and freedoms. These risks are only heightened in conflict zones like Ukraine. Many LGBTIQ+ groups carry the double burden of delivering civic work and protecting the community from new harms. At the same time, LGBTIQ+ security professionals face persistent challenges (exclusion, discrimination, burnout) exacerbated by crisis conditions.
As many countries around the world mark Pride Month, there is an urgent need to investigate how best to practice and operationalise solidarity with the LGBTIQ+ community in international security. Our panel and networking session brings together security professionals from the UK and overseas to discuss key threats and identify shared priorities.
