Overview

Cybercrime is a threat to the UK’s critical infrastructure and national and economic security. There is a growing gap between the cybercrime threats facing the UK’s critical networks and collective capacity to defend them.

In this webinar, RUSI Research Fellow Dr Gareth Mott will explore the concept of ‘cyber deputisation’, debating to what extent the UK should give trusted private sector firms a formal role – with the appropriate oversight and safeguards in place – in disrupting cybercriminal activity.

Chaired by Jen Ellis, RUSI Associate Fellow, the session combines a short presentation followed by an open discussion, including Q&A to further explore the risks and opportunities of private organisations conducting cyber operations on behalf of the state.

This webinar, and the associated research paper, are part of a project on Cyber Statecraft in an Era of Systemic Competition; a DSTL-funded project that RUSI has undertaken in partnership with King’s College London and the University of Bath.
