Overview
Brief optimism in energy markets that the ceasefire between Iran, Israel and the US would prevent the looming global energy crisis has proven premature, as the Iranian and US blockades have continued to impede most traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The US and Iran now face an uncomfortable standoff as each seeks to outlast the economic and political fallout of closure of the critical waterway. Even when the standoff is resolved, the possibility of future disruption, attacks and possible new costs is likely to impact global energy supply for the foreseeable future.
The panel will explore how Iran and the US are weighing their options, as each seeks to leverage the strait for a favourable political settlement, and what this could mean for energy markets in Europe and around the world.
