Overview

RUSI’s Lord Fisher Lecture honours the life and work of Admiral of the Fleet Lord John Arbuthnot ‘Jackie’ Fisher, the Royal Navy’s First Sea Lord from 1904 to 1910, and again briefly from 1914 to 1915, father of the Dreadnought battleship and renowned naval reformer, innovator and strategist.

Admiral Lord Fisher’s legacy and his role in the Dreadnought revolution illustrate how profound change can reshape every aspect of a navy, from the coordination of related technological innovations, through training of personnel, to the development of doctrine.

In this inaugural lecture, the head of the Royal Navy will discuss his vision to redefine UK naval operations through rapid technological innovation, aiming to prepare the Senior Service for high-intensity warfighting within four years.

This series of lectures provides an opportunity for senior naval leaders, experts and those interested in sea power to share insights and current thinking on some of the most pressing maritime issues today, from strategic challenges to understanding innovation and change.
