Northern Ireland’s defence industrial heritage is long and illustrious. Warships have been launched in Belfast since the 19th century, and the city has been home to military aerospace since the dawn of aviation. Today, investment and innovation in the province is sustaining a vibrant economy where hundreds of companies, from defence manufacturing to technology and cyber security, are exporting to partners and allies around the world.

The people of Northern Ireland have a long and proud history of service in the British armed forces. Estimates by the Office of Veterans’ Affairs, recently set up within the UK Ministry of Defence, suggest that there may be as many as 150,000 veterans living in the province. That is approaching 10% of the population and a record of service unparalleled anywhere in the UK.

Colonel Collins will offer his thoughts on Northern Ireland’s important contribution to the defence and economy of the UK. He will delve into the region's strategic significance, drawing on his personal experience and expertise.

The discussion will be moderated by The Rt Hon Baroness Foster of Aghadrumsee DBE, Chair of Intertrade UK and former First Minister of Northern Ireland.
