Overview
Over a year after the publication of the UK’s Strategic Defence Review (SDR), the UK Armed Forces have made significant progress in modernisation, but the full ambitions set by the government remain some distance from maturity. Bureaucratic delays, changing fiscal situations, and rapid geopolitical shifts continue to challenge efforts to transform into the ‘Integrated Force’ even as the modern conflicts around the world challenge the readiness of the UK Armed Forces. Achieving the vision set out in the 2025 SDR requires coordinated efforts from doctrine to policy, procurement, and deployment, as well as honest conversations about gaps and limitations in ongoing efforts.
The RUSI Military Technology Conference 2026 provides a vital platform for rigorous, cross-sector dialogue exploring the theme: 'From Policy Commitment to Capability Deployment'.
Bringing together experts and stakeholders from across the UK and Allied governments, armed forces, defence primes and SMEs, and academic institutions, the event will address the concepts, practicalities, and future of technological capabilities for the UK Armed Forces. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the progress made since the SDR’s publication, the challenges being faced in both public and private sectors, and the concrete actions needed to close the gap between strategic ambition and operational reality.
