Overview

Convened by RUSI and the United Nations Association - UK, this conference takes place the week before International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. It aims to highlight the work undertaken by peacekeepers around the world, while also providing a forum to discuss the challenges they face.

The conference will cover three key areas:

  • Host-nation consent, in particular how strategic communications and intelligence gathering should be used in support of peacekeeping operations.
  • Cyprus at 60, reflecting on one of the longest-running UN peacekeeping operations.
  • Caring for the peacekeepers, including supporting the mental health of peacekeepers and understanding the challenges faced, in particular, by women in peacekeeping.

The conference will start with introductions by Dr Karin von Hippel, Director-General of RUSI, and His Excellency Mr Yoon Yeocheol, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea.

At about 13:00 the conference will pause for the Diplomats' wreath laying ceremony.
