UK PONI will host an off-the-record discussion on the main findings and implications of the report released by the Congressional Commission on the Strategic Posture of the United States with Commissioner Robert M. Scher.

Earlier this year, the bipartisan Commission charged with reviewing US nuclear weapons policy, strategy, and force structure, and to conduct an assessment of America’s near-peer competitors, released its final report on America’s strategic posture. This is the first such report released since 2009. Commission member Robert M. Scher – Vice-President and Head of International Affairs at BP America – has close to twenty-five years of experience in senior global affairs and national security roles in the US government, most recently serving as the assistant secretary of defense for strategy, plans, and capabilities in the Pentagon from 2014 to 2017.

Dr Matthew Harries, Director for Proliferation and Nuclear Policy at RUSI, will chair the discussion.
