Dan is a Research Fellow in energy security at the Royal United Services Institute. His research focuses on national security dimensions of the energy transition in the United Kingdom and internationally.
Prior to joining the institute, Dan was the power editor at African Energy, a division of Cross-border Information. He reported on energy issues across the African continent as well as heading the African Energy Live Data research team, which maintained and developed a database of more than 7,000 power plants and projects.
Dan holds an MPhil in theory, methodology and epistemology in economics and social science from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, as well as an MA in international relations in the Middle East from the University of Durham and a BSc in physics and economics, also from Durham.
Isabelle Dupraz is the Deputy Director of the European Initiative for Energy Security (EIES), an initiative launched in December 2023 by SAFE in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and amid growing concern over China’s domination of critical mineral supply chains to champion comprehensive solutions that benefit Europe's energy security, transition, and competitiveness, including through its Energy Security Leadership Council-Europe (ESLC-Europe). Isabelle has worked in the public policy sphere for almost a decade - in research and public and private sector advisory capacities, spanning all levels of government in the UK and US. Her expertise spans European energy policy, global freight transportation, and masterplanning. Isabelle holds a BSc from the University College London and a Masters in Urban Planning from Harvard University. She is fluent in French and Spanish.
Joseph is a Research Fellow in cyber threats and cyber security. His research focuses on cyber security capacity building and how advanced technologies pose opportunities and risks to economic security.
Prior to joining RUSI, he worked as a research assistant at King’s College London on projects focusing on practices of democratic oversight and control over intelligence services, as well as on risk and responsibility in cyber security.
Joseph holds an MA in International Conflict Studies from Kings College London’s Department of War Studies, where he studied innovative methodological approaches to analysing cyber security, national cyber security strategies and cybers growing importance to international and data security. His dissertation examined how responsibility for counter-terrorism would be redistributed through the proposed Protect Duty. Joseph also holds a BA in International Relations from King’s College London.
His research interests include UK cyber policy, both foreign and domestic, as well as transnational data security, ransomware, the development of smart cities and the place of the internet in developing democratic and economic participation.
Pia is a Research Fellow in cyber, technology and national security. Her research focusses on the impact, societal risks and lawfulness of cyber operations and the geopolitical and national security implications of disruptive technologies, such as AI
Prior to joining RUSI, Pia conducted her doctoral research on the lawfulness of low-intensity offensive cyber operations in international law, particularly under the principles of sovereignty and non-intervention. Previously, Pia has been a visiting researcher at McGill University and worked at the Glasgow Centre for International Law and Security as well as the Brussels office of the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
At RUSI, Pia currently conducts research on the governance and regulation of cyber security issues, ransomware and its impact on victims, offensive cyber operations, and the geopolitical and national security implications of disruptive technologies including AI.
Pia’s other research interests include the governance of cyberspace, election interference, cyberwarfare and the relationship between law and technology, including cyber and artificial intelligence. Pia holds an LLM in International Law Security (with distinction) from the University of Glasgow and an LLB in European Law from Maastricht University
Jasjeet is senior principal consultant and team leader at DNV Energy Systems. In his role, he oversees major infrastructure projects as the lead engineer and consultant, focusing on electrification and green energy, cyber security in the energy industry, and functional safety. Jasjeet is instrumental in developing technical methodologies and recommended practices in these areas.
With 18 years of experience in the energy sector, hydrocarbon industries, and technical risk management, Jasjeet is a highly skilled engineer. He has provided expert advice on technical risk management and cyber security in the energy industry to multinational corporations, public sector organizations, national governments, and educational institutions. Throughout his career, he has successfully managed and delivered high-value projects, created solutions for complex technical challenges, and mentored junior engineers.
Kyna Bowers is Assistant Head of Cyber Policy in the UK Government’s Department for Energy, Security and Net Zero. Her team leads on cyber risk and mitigation for the UK energy sector with a particular focus on energy decarbonisation and future technologies. Kyna has been a policy professional in the UK civil service for five years in various national security and energy planning policy roles.
Henry Sanderson is a journalist and author based in London, focused on China and clean energy. He is currently the executive editor of Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, the leading provider of data
and analysis on the battery supply chain. He previously worked as a journalist for the Financial Times for seven years, covering commodities and mining, and before that was a reporter in Beijing for seven years, including for Bloomberg News.
He is the author of Volt Rush, the Winners and Losers in the Race to Go Green, which was chosen as a book of the week by the Observer, and one of the best science and environment books
of 2022 by The Times.
Dr Pragna Kiri is currently the Head of Consultancy at Minviro. She leads her team to deliver life cycle assessment (LCA) based studies on energy transition raw materials, including batteries and related supply chains, where she focuses on developing technical and policy insight, market strategies and business planning support from a LCA perspective for clients.
She holds a PhD and MSci (Honours) in Chemistry both from University College London, and prior to joining Minviro, Pragna trained as a materials chemist, with 13 years of experience in clean technology development across multiple sectors. In her past and current roles, Pragna has delivered sustainable energy insights, including numerous strategic projects focusing on hydrogen, fuel cells and synthetic fuels (e-fuels) in the transport, buildings, power and industrial sectors.
Her work included being the technical director for a strategic positioning study for UK low carbon lithium producer, including an economic value assessment and LCA, and led a LCA study for an EU lithium-ion battery recycling developer, evaluating novel recycling equipment technology benefits from an emissions reduction perspective. She also led a strategic analysis for a global technology developer of novel solid-state batteries, including technical and life-cycle economic evaluation.
Ben Bowie is the Managing Director of TMP Public, the non-profit wing of TMP. A recognized expert in political and social risk management, he has served on Steering/Advisory Groups for the OECD Responsible Business Conduct Guidelines, University of Bristol Earth Sciences Department, and the Interlaken Group, among others. Ben received his MSc in Asian Politics from SOAS University of London, and his MA in Social and Political Sciences from The University of Cambridge. He lives outside Oxford.
Michael Bradshaw is Professor of Global Energy in the Strategy and International Business Group at Warwick Business School. He is also a Co-Director of the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) where he leads a theme on UK Energy in a Global Context. He recently completed a two and quarter-year secondment with Shell Scenarios.
He is author of Global Energy Dilemmas (2014) that explored the relationship between energy security, globalization, and climate change. The co-editor of Global Energy: Issues, Potentials and Policy Implications (2015), and co-author of Natural Gas (2020) that explores the geopolitical economy of the global gas industry. His current research is on global gas security and the geopolitics of energy system transformation.
Frank Ketelaars is the Energy Transition Director for DNV Energy Systems in the UK & Ireland. He is the project manager for development of the annual DNV UK Energy Transition Outlook report. Since its inaugural issue in 2023, he has been a key spokesperson and thought leader on the report. He has a pivotal role in bringing the report together and ensuring the key themes that are important to the UK industry and other stakeholders are addressed.
His previous roles included many operational leadership roles in DNV, both in the UK and abroad. Most recently he was the Regional Director for DNV’s Energy operations in the Americas, based in Houston, where he oversaw the operations across the full energy space in North and South America.
He graduated in 1986 with an MSc in Electrical engineering from the TechnicalUniversity Delft in the Netherlands.
