Overview

In this briefing, Fiona Clouder will discuss the geopolitics of Latin America, examining the intersections of Trump-era US policies and UK foreign policy. The discussion will explore shifting power dynamics, regional trade realignments, and how global interests – from West to East – are influencing Latin America's political and economic landscape.

Emerging zones of interests, including the Panama Canal, Antarctica, and the Caribbean region, and how Western nations are positioning themselves in these growing areas of influence will also be discussed. Particular attention will be given to UK security and trade ambitions post-Brexit and their implications for bilateral and multilateral economic ties in the region.

The briefing will be chaired by Dr Carlos Solar, Senior Research Fellow, Latin American Security, RUSI.
